Guinevere’s Furry New Friend

Guinevere‘s dream came true when she brought home her new puppy, Dug. Thanks to the Sunshine Foundation and her sponsors, eight-year-old Guinevere has the therapy dog she wished for. Guinevere’s puppy is currently undergoing training as a service dog. Guinevere’s mother believes having a service dog will help Guinevere with her anxiety and sensory issues.

A Word from the Family

“Thank you guys again so much for providing the resources for us to get Gwen her puppy Dug! She already loves her so much! We are so thankful to all who donate and support Sunshine Foundation and the work that they do for families like ours. Without their support and donations, Gwen’s dream would not have been possible. We have seen Gwen learning to manage her anxiety a lot better now that Dug is here and that is due to everyone who supports this amazing organization!” – Guinevere’s mom, Jennifer

About Guinevere’s Illness

Guinevere suffers from a condition called Eosinophilic Esophagitis, commonly referred to as EoE. According to CHOP.org, Eosinophilic Esophagitis is a “chronic allergic inflammatory disease of the esophagus.” Symptoms in children may include difficulty swallowing, food getting stuck in the throat, nausea, vomiting, poor growth, and malnutrition. While there is no cure for EoE, there are treatments and dietary modifications to help children live a full life.

Sponsors

Guinevere’s dream was made possible by LCH Health and Community Services (previously known as La Comunidad Hispana) and Exelon in conjunction with the Sunshine Foundation.
